Why does the Queensland Government want to assault our Harness and Thoroughbred Racing Industries?
:-There were 148 written submissions to the Parliamentary Committee reviewing this Bill. There were 15 public addresses from witnesses. There was no evidence supporting the application of this Bill to Harness and Thoroughbred racing.
:-There is still no assessment of the cost to the public or the racing industry of this Bill which turns current Integrity and Operations management on its head and no assessment of other alternatives.
:-The Chairman of Racing Australia, Mr John Messara said (CM 27/02/16),
“ I am not in favour of one Integrity Unit undertaking those functions for the three codes”,
“ I don’t think bureaucratising those functions will achieve a better outcome” and
“Racing Australia would have to seek legal advice to see how we could accommodate Queensland if integrity is shifted to a government body”.
:- The CEO of Country Racing Victoria, Scott Whiteman, says “ All the three codes are separate here, no 3 code board over the top of it, the shareholders appoint the Racing Victoria Board, you don’t put the NRL , ARL and Soccer together so why 3 codes of racing”.
THE GOVERNMENT MUST RECALL THIS BILL OR SEE IT VOTED DOWN Authorised by Ian McCauley –Chairman -RUG
